COMA

Coma is a state where consciousness is altered severely n is due to depressed function.It is defined as a state of altered consciousness where a person cannot be aroused easily

causes-

1. Cerebral hemispherical lesions-
 brain tumors,abscess,cerebral infarcts,haemorrhage,hydryocephalous

2. Brain stem lesions-
 infarct,haemorrhage

3. Combination  of both
 trauma,meningitis,anoxia

4. Metabolic encephalopathies
 hypoglycaemia,hyponatraemia,hyperglycaemia,hepatic encephalopathy

5. Miscellaneous
 poisoning,toxic encephalopathy,hypertensive encephalopathy

ct scan,
csf evaluation,
metabolic parameters(blood biochemistry),
toxicological screening



treatment-

airway,circulation mantainance
treat the diabeties,if alcoholic administer glucose n vit B1
